Part Categories allow you to categorize Parts into different major groups. You can also use Part Subcategories to further define and order the possibly numerous Parts of different sorts that your Company deals with.

Here are some places where Part Categories and Subcategories may help with your work:

The full-size Parts Lookup screen
in Field to Search you can select Category or Subcategory.
you can use the powerful DataView format functions to sort and select groups based on Categories and Subcategories.
The small-size Parts Lookup screen, where in Field to Search you can select Category or Subcategory.
The Select Multiple Parts screen, where you can drag Column Headers to the top border in order to group the Parts on display. This screen is an option when you are working on the following:
any Work Order Items Tab where you are entering Parts
Purchase Quotes Parts Tab
Purchase Order Parts Tab
Schedule Slot Details where you are entering Parts

Setting up a Part Category:

On the Work Menu at the top of the screen, click the Inventory down-arrow, and select Part Categories.
The smaller-size Lookup screen will appear. (To add or change a record, see Small Lookup, Add or Edit.)
Next, the Parts Category Details screen will appear. This screen has a second Tab for Notes.

Screen fields:

Parts Category:

Required. The descriptive name for this Parts Category, according to the groupings suitable for your Company.

Is Active:

Use the checkbox to indicate currently used by your Company. If you later remove the check-mark making this field Inactive, this entry will still show on older records where it has already been used, but will not be available for use in the future.

The default for the Lookup screen is to show Only Active records. You can remove the check-mark from the select-box on that screen and view all.

When complete:

Click OK to save your entries and exit the screen.
